If you summon a guy to run around Duke's Archives with you and you go up there for the items, then he calls the elevator from below for whatever reason, you're stuck. Obviously this only applies after you've died to Seath. The same applies to the switches at the Anor Londo central section. Webyou need to have escaped the prison before you can summon someone. Your husband can put a summon sign down just outside the large doors above the ladder.
